It has emerged that some parts of the Garissa PSV Sacco bus that was involved in an accident while traveling to Wajir from Nairobi on Tuesday last week were fastened with sisal ropes.

A Kitui MCA has now accused the NTSA of allowing vehicles that are considered road unworthy to ply the Nairobi-Mwingi-Garissa highway, which has led to several accidents in the recent past.

Kitui county assembly deputy minority leader Colleta Kimanzi called upon the authority in collaboration with the traffic department to take a stern action against the owner and driver of the bus.

She argued that the automobile had mechanical issues, adding that it was poorly maintained.

“Some of the vehicles plying the Nairobi-Mwingi-Garissa route are accidents waiting to happen,” Kimanzi said in Kitui town, as quoted by The Star.

She further said that the ropes on the vehicle are probably among the reasons why the automobile was involved in an accident “The ropes were a clear indication of what caused the crash,” he added.

Scores were injured and others narrowly escaped death after a bus, which belongs to E-coach Travelers Sacco with registration number KCJ 420 A was involved in the accident.  The injured passengers were rushed to Mwingi Level Four hospital for treatment.
