She was elected Kholera ward MCA last year after beating six other competitors who vied against her, among them former MCA Abel Nambwaya who came third with 1,423 votes.

The 44-year-old mother of three garnered a total of 3, 657 votes to emerge the winner. She vied on an ANC party ticket.

She is among the four elected female MCAs in Kakamega County.

But what is more interesting is the fact that between 2013 and 2017, Ms Omondi was a member of the Senate having been nominated by the Amani National Congress (ANC) party after the 2013 general elections.

She was nominated to represent interests of the People Living with disabilities in the senate.

During campaigns, ahead of last year’s elections, Ms Omondi said she decided to leave her glamorous parliamentary seat to fight for a ‘less prestigious’ MCA seat so as to be able to serve her people more effectively.

She put up a spirited campaign and promised to use her four-year experience in the Senate, to represent and serve residents of Kholera Ward in a proper way.

She says she is now very comfortable serving all her people from home.
