[Photo/Facebook]Gachagi slum residents in Thika West sub-county have decried bedbugs menace in many homes in the area. The residents say despite efforts to fumigate their homes and their beddings, the insect is still rampant and now are calling upon the county government to chip in and help them get rid of them."Lately there has been an increase of bedbug infestations in our surroundings. Even though we have always had them here, this time they have multiplied and sleeping at night has become a nightmare," Peter Kamau, a resident said on Monday.Silvia Wairimu, another resident, says that children are even going to school late because they can't sleep well at night when the bugs strike."We are always worried for our school-children when darkness comes in. They have to wake up early for school but these bugs can't just let them to sleep well to be able to wake up early," she said.Bedbugs feed on blood and their bites are unpleasant and cause skin irritation. They can infest your whole house from any upholstered furniture to mattresses and even your clothes. They are difficult to spot during the day because they are nocturnal creatures.
