Police in Gatundu, Kiambu County have arrested one of their colleagues suspected to have defiled a 15-year-old girl inside police cells.

Gatundu OCS Joshua Nyasimu said the officer was arrested after the girl who was being detained at the station reported the matter.

Nyasimu said the girl was arrested and detained at the station on Friday and the officer is suspected to have defiled the minor at 5am on Saturday.

The OCS said the incident was not reported until Sunday when the girl approached a police officer manning the report office and told him of her ordeal.

The girl was taken to Gatundu District Hospital for medical check-up and treatment, while the officer was arrested and detained at the Gatundu Police Station waiting to be charged in court.

“The officer is suspected to have defiled the girl who was being detained at the police station. The minor had complained that a police constable had carnal knowledge of her against her will after removing her from the cells to do some cleaning within the station,” said OCS Nyasimu.

Last week, Gatundu North children’s officer had expressed concern over the rising cases of defilement, incest and sodomy.

James Irungu said cases of defilement of minors have reached alarming levels urging relevant authorities to take action.

“It is worrying that children are being abused while culprits go unpunished,” said Irungu.
