The Uasin County Assembly has passed a motion urging the County Government to put in place policies that will ensure that all public institutions provide breastfeeding facility in their premises.

While moving the motion, nominated Member of County Assembly Jeruto Barbengi emphasized on the need for the breastfeeding chambers for mothers following their need to exclusively breastfeed newborns for six months.

"This will help to improve health and reduce infant mortality rates that are on the rise," said Barbengi.

The motion seeks to make it comfortable for breastfeeding mothers and their babies to enjoy their fundamental freedom as enshrined in our constitution.

The motion was seconded by Cheptiret/Kipchamo MCA Gilbert Tenai.

Nominated MCA Dr. Cathrene Barmeo while supporting the motion pointed out on the importance of the county taking up the flagship project and be among the first devolved units to address and work on the Bill that was passed by the National Assembly in 2017.

According to the Constitution Article 20 section 5(b) that stipulates that in allocating resources, the state shall give priority to ensuring the widest possible enjoyment of the right of fundamental freedom having regard to prevailing circumstances including the vulnerability of particular groups or individuals herein the breastfeeding mothers and their children.
