More than 2,000 youth in Kiambu County have taken short entrepreneurial courses sponsored by the National Government Affirmative Action Funds (NGAAF).

Speaking on Sunday in Ndumberi, Kiambu County NGAAF Coordinator Elizabeth Muthoni said that youth underwent entrepreneurial coaching to help them execute useful social economic activities.

“During the year under review over 200 women groups received grants to engage in value addition in goat farming, poultry, banana farming and basket making which cost sh. 20 million,” Muthoni said.

The coordinator praised the youth for having gone a long way and the efforts they put in the workshop. She was confident that they will be successful.

“NGAAF projects to establish a bursary where over 10,000 students will be sponsored,” Muthoni affirmed.

 “A rescue centre was also constructed in Kiambaa sub-county which will be used by victims of gender violence drawn from the 6 courts spread out in the county,” she added.

Margaret Njeri, one of the beneficiaries who took a hairdressing course thanked the county government for the opportunity training saying it had enabled her to become independent.

Her sentiments were reiterated by Johnstone Mwangi another of the beneficiaries from Ndumberi Youth Polytechnic he had gained more knowledge and skills to work as a mechanic along the Ndumberi-Githunguri road.
