Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua has said he is committed to fulfilling all his campaign pledges to Machakos residents before his second term comes to an end in 2022.

Mutua launched Higher Education Bursary Program to support college and university students from Machakos County on Monday.

Speaking during the program's official launch at Athi River Youth Polytechnic in Mavoko, the governor said the initiative is intended to ensure no youth from Machakos County stays at home without post secondary education after sitting for KCSE examinations.

He said the county government is envisioned to supporting 10,000 students undertaking Degrees, Diplomas and Certificates in various colleges and universities across the country by July 2018.

The funds confirmatory letters belonging to the students who had applied for the funds were disbursed and cheques issued during the launch.

"As leaders we must fulfill our promises and I'm happy I have done that, children from Machakos County will not stay at home reason being lack of fees. I assure you parents that as your children study, I will be creating jobs for them by constructing new Machakos City. I will bring investors to Machakos County so that the youths get employed once they complete their studies," Mutua said.

Mutua said the program is available to all youths from Machakos County stating that bursary forms can be downloaded from the county government's official website free of charge.

"I will be a parent to all these children, beneficiaries. I will be following up their progress in their various educational institutions of higher learning," Mutua added.

He said ECD education will be offered free of charge in the county to allow allparents take their children in school despite of their economic family backgrounds.

Mutua said his administration will fund all youth polytechnics and vocational training institutions across the county to a tune of Sh3 million for upgrading and infrastructure renovations in a bid of improving education standards.

The program's beneficiaries were happy, they thanked Mutua for the initiative.
