The governors’ performance ranking that placed Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua the best performing so far is false.

It is high time our counties start being ranked by what they have achieved and not the governors' promises to their electorates.

For instance, let me take you to both Makueni and Machakos counties for the last few months after elections then you will judge for yourself.

In Makueni County, Governor Professor Kivutha Kibwana has launched so many projects that touch the lives of the common 'mwananchi'. He has initiated a Universal health care which provides affordable health services to needy residents.

This is how it's affordable: With only Sh500 per year, Makueni locals get access to free health services throughout the year.

Secondly, Kibwana has established Kalamba fruit and milk processing plants at Kalamba and Mbooni areas respectively which are both functional.

Kalamba and Mbooni areas are well known for fruits and milk production which has been benefiting brokers who buy the products at a throwaway price just to sell at the best prices reaping off the farmers. Now in Makueni, farmers enjoy good prices which are growing upwards every season.

In Machakos County, on the other part, Governor Alfred Mutua recently launched fees sponsorship program for all tertiary students in the county to access free higher education, but who knows if it will be implemented?.

To me, apart from the media hype given to the Machakos governor and the tours he is making to other counties to launch his 2022 presidential bid, nothing much is happening in Machakos worth taking home.

And also by the look of things, more governors and leaders are touring Makueni County for bench marking more than any other county in the country.

This alone tells you who deserves to be announced the best performing governor in the country. But then again, do we know the criteria they used to make this ranking? I wish they could tell us.
