Daily life for children brought up in Kibera slums is grim.

Most of these children begin their lives on fronts of abject poverty. Poor infrastructure, lack of access to quality education and poor sanitation makes life unbearable.

However, children in this area have proven that their dreams are valid regardless of where you come from.

Kibera has raised great talents in different sectors. Octopizzo, DJ Pinye, Abel Mutua, Kris Darlin and Larry Asego are among the celebrities who were brought up these areas.

A good percentage of the children in these areas have been raised by single mothers.  Mothers in Kibera slums go through tough times to food on the table.

There are mothers who wash clothes for wealthy Kenyans in leafy suburbs to earn a living.

The strong women have resorted to starting small businesses in this part of the nation. Some of the businesses thriving in these areas include selling water, charcoal, paraffin, daycare and Mpesa shops.

Children have also emulated their mothers to work around the clock to make ends meet. Unlike children who are raised in wealthy families, these kids understand what it means to live below the poverty line.
