Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka is one of the politicians likely to end up as casualties of the ongoing row within the opposition's National Super Alliance (NASA).

The NASA co-principal is currently, almost wholly dependent on the alliance Supremo Raila Odinga for his 2022 presidential ambition.

With the two having made a pact before the 2017 presidential race, compelling Odinga to support Musyoka in 2022, Kalonzo is on the verge of losing the so much needed backing should NASA's wrangles result to a collapse.

Therefore, to keep his hopes and winning chances up, the former Vice President needs a new political strategy, with the first option being breaking away to create a separate coalition, ahead of time.

This will give him enough time to comfortably prepare himself with his new allies, without worrying of a possible betrayal. It will also make him the boss, giving him the liberty to conduct his operations without the pressure to please anyone.

After making and strengthening the new coalition, he will  have a bigger bargaining power, unlike currently when he seems to politically live at the mercy of Raila.

Armed with the backing of strong allies, Kalonzo will have the capability to reach out and deliberate with other leaders and coalitions and though not a guarantee to Presidency, he will have a clearer political future or even secure a better place for his block and supporters in the government.

Lastly, Kalonzo, as the NASA second in command, can decide to take over and steer the alliance to the next level.

As things stand now, the coalition seems to fully revolve around Odinga, whose next step remains unknown after recently doing the unthinkable by teaming up with his biggest political rival President Uhuru Kenyatta.

However, politics remains a game of probabilities and what will happen next remains to be seen.
