November 17, 2017, is a day which the Kathiani MP Robert Mbui will never forget.
On the fateful day, Mbui joined other National Super Alliance (NASA) leaders and supporters in welcoming the opposition leader Raila Odinga into the country from the United States.
He was involved in mayhem when chaos erupted after NASA supporters engaged police officers in running battles few metres from the Kenya National Library Services in Nairobi.
During the incident, Mbui was in his official car that was in Raila's entourage from the Jommo Kenyatta International Airport when police hurled teargas canister at it.It was reported that the MP fell into a ditch and broke his leg while trying to evade the police after his vehicle was smashed.
Mbui was rescued from the ditch by journalists and NASA supporters.
He was then rushed to the Nairobi Women Hospital for treatment.
Later, the Wiper party through its executive director Jared Siso claimed the incident was an attempt on the MP's life.
Mbui's bodyguard was also injured in the incident.
Five people lost their lives, several others injured and property worth millions of shillings destroyed that day.
