The government through the ministry of health has always been in a forefront to issue free mosquito nets to residents in a bid to curb the spread of malaria in the country.

Surprisingly, some residents of Uasin Gishu County have used mosquito nets for other purposes.

A spot check by Hivisasa.com to several homes in Uasin Gishu has revealed how the mosquito nets have been misused.

Here are some of the ways mosquito nets are misused in the county.

Bathing scrapper 

The highest percentage of both residents in urban and rural scrap their bodies using a piece cut from mosquito nets.  They say it is economical because it uses less soap.

Poultry house

Some of the residents use mosquito nets to fence a poultry house to guard hens against deadly prey, eagle.

Seedbed fence

A mosquito net has been misused to fence a seedbed which health officers in Uasin Gishu County say it can cause health hazards because it contains chemicals to kill mosquitos.

Making manilla ropes

These manilla ropes are used in fetching water from boreholes and wells. These manilla roles are dangerous because the nets used are treated and contains chemicals that might be a health risk.

Residents are advised to stop misusing mosquito nets.
