The former Prime Minister has completely outsmarted Deputy President William Ruto who is opposed to the referendum bid, the first step being his reconciliation with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

By including Uhuru in his national cohesion initiative, Odinga will be able to compel the President to back the bid which he says will contribute to inclusion, as the President will appear dishonest should he turn back.

This means that Uhuru will be forced to betray his Deputy, a move that will also bring in more support from Uhuru's support base, beating Ruto who has remained alone on the opposing side.

Thanks to his recent truce with retired President Daniel Moi, the Orange party chief has also managed to secure the backing of the ex-leaders son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi, further bettering his chances of winning in both races.

With Moi on Raila's side, Ruto is portrayed as an unfriendly leader who cannot embrace opposition and correction as Ruto and Gideon have been involved in a spat lately, hence Gideon's move to rally against him.

This will boost Odinga's campaigns and bring in a section of the vote-rich Rift Valley region.

The referendum will also act as a mock contest ahead of the 2022 race, with the teams likely to remain intact to the much-awaited contest, with Odinga's side appearing the superior and more likely to win.
