A phone call from top police officers from Nairobi issued a short notice on Raila's tour in Kisii for the burial of NASA strategist Oeri Tumbo, thus causing last minute confusion.

"We received last minute instruction from Nairobi to accord him reception befitting presidential status," recalled an officer, who spoke in confidence.

The officer further said: "Many of us were unsure until more clarification was made by regional commanders. He now enjoys status of a president."

Unlike in previous visits, Raila's convoy throughout the day on Friday was under county commander unlike in the past where his personal security coordinated events.

In every stopovers from across the county, both Kisii, Homa Bay and Kisumu county commanders coordinated his movements with his aides only playing a superficial role.

Although his current status in the national governance remains unclear, sources claim that Raila could  also be given an office within Harambee House, which hosts presidency.
