Despite initially being observed as a weapon against him and his 2022 presidential ambition, Deputy President William Ruto is suddenly the biggest beneficiary of the March 9 reconciliation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga.

Riding on the secret agenda of the surprise meeting, the DP and his cronies have found a reason to bash and accuse Odinga of attempting to stop his bid for fear of meeting him in the race, propaganda aimed at portraying the former Premier as a spoiler, resulting to the sympathy vote for Ruto.

His allies have also found a reason to continue endorsing his bid, with the team led by Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and his Nandi counterpart Samson Cherargei repeatedly hiding behind the truce to remind Kenyans of Ruto's candidature, while the DP is on the other side calling for calm.

This comes at a time when the nation is facing a hard time as a result of the recurrent graft scandals, giving the DP nothing to brag about in line with his bid.

With the handshake spreading to retired President Daniel Moi, after which a similar meeting pitting the DP the ailing ex-head of state flopped, Ruto's quarters have since used the botched meeting to pin down Moi's son and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi who is seemingly a threat to Ruto's influence in Rift Valley.

They have since accused the lawmaker of blocking the meeting and further linked him to the alleged plan between the county's leading political families to stop Ruto who reportedly hails from a noble background.

Finally, he seems to have managed to regain Uhuru's support following the President's recent declaration that he doesn’t support the referendum bid pushed by Odinga who had earlier claimed that they had jointly agreed to champion for the changes in their truce.

The President has seemingly given in to the pressure being exerted by Ruto's side and is keen on evading the treatment Odinga is being subjected to, as he seeks to leave a spotless legacy.
