A power outage that hit Nyayo House in  Nairobi has hugely affected the printing of passports.

The Directorate of immigration and registration of persons on Tuesday said the outage affected the entire printing process of the vital documents that have to be verified and printed electronically.

It is understood that the blackout that hit the building last week has led to a huge backlog with many applications still pending since January 11, 2018.

According to Director of Immigration Services Maj-Gen (Rtd) Gordon Kihalangwa, the printing process only resumed on Monday evening.“The power surge at Nyayo House Building on January 11, 2018 affected the printing of passports. Technicians worked on the systems over the weekend and managed to restore the system yesterday (Monday) at 1500 hours,” he said.
