The commission on Friday cleared Edith Nyenze (Wiper Party), Robert Lelli (Narc Kenya), Denis Mulwa (Independent), Frida Mutui (Kenya National Congress) and Elijah Kilonzi (Chama Cha Mapinduzi) as candidates eligible to contest for the seat.

The Kitui west seat was left vacant following the death of Francis Nyenze on December 6, last year.

The  controversial Wiper politician died after a long battle with colon cancer.

The late politician’s wife, Edith Nyenze vying on Kalonzo Musyoka’s Wiper party is likely to clinch the seat owing to the dominance of the party in the region.

President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Jubilee Party did not front any candidate in the Kitui West by-election instead throwing its support to the Wiper candidate.

On Monday, the late Nyenze’s wife urged residents to vote for her assuring them of her commitment on development.

The Wiper politician promised to spearhead education, access to water, health, agriculture and empowerment of marginalized groups if she is elected in the by-election.
