This came as the Kisumu Magistrate Court opened a file, which was a directive by the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko.

Police officers, who are accused of injuring the baby before passing on a few days later, form the bulk of the list of witnesses.

The officers include two General Service Unit (GSU) officers who were deployed to man Kachok and Nyalenda areas, while some other two are attached to the Recce Company Ruiru.

Mr. Nzioka Mutune, a GSU commander who was leading the team in Nyanza region will also appear before the courts.

Pendo was killed after the August 8 elections, with police accused of hitting her on the head with a gun butt as they searched for alleged gangs.

The police were in the area to quell chaos that had erupted after president Uhuru Kenyatta was announced the winner of the disputed elections.

“The case will be mentioned on January 8, next year before Chief Magistrate Julius Ng’arng’ar,” reads the court file on the case as quoted by the Nation.

The parents of the baby have been calling on the police to bring to book those involved in their baby’s death.
