Mombasa Governor has hailed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for conducting a free and fair election in Mombasa on August 8.

While defending his win in a petition filed by former senator Hassan Omar, the ODM governor said the Mombasa gubernatorial election was free and fair.

Joho trounced Omar, who vied for the county's top seat on a Wiper party ticket.

The governor denied claims by Omar that the election was rigged.

“I am the duly elected Governor of Mombasa, the election was free and fair. IEBC did a commendable job, especially concerning the election of the seat of the Governor in Mombasa County,” Governor Joho said on Wednesday.

He dismissed claims that Nancy Wanjiku, the County Returning Officer, did not comply with election regulations in declaring him the winner.
