Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi on Wednesday attended the Social Protection Conference 2018 at the Kenya School of Monetary Studies.

This years conference was themed: "Scaling up Investment in Social Protection for the Delivery of Kenya's Vision 2030 and Achievement of SDGs." 

"The main objective of Social Protection is to ensure that all Kenyans live in dignity and are able to exploit their human capabilities for their own socioeconomic development," he said.

Kingi indicated the County government of Mombasa has gone a step forward in the realization of this objective through its Social Protection strategy that they hope to implement to the latter. 

"This strategy offers a proper guideline in addressing the plight of the vulnerable," he added.

He noted theirs is an elaborate plan to keep children safer and guarantee access to education, good health and nutrition; to empower women and keep them away from gender based abuse and discrimination; to offer proper care to senior citizens through sustainable programmes tailored for the aged and to ensure that youth grow into responsible adults through robust youth intervention programmes. 

The conference which was graced by Deputy President William Ruto, saw Kingi say that the conversation on Social Protection must be escalated in every county as they seek mutual partnerships to achieve the goals of the social protection agenda and jointly realize the Kenya's Vision 2030 in line with the Global Sustainable Development Goals.
