Early last week Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi accompanied a delegation from the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) comprising of 4 Deputy Governors, members of the JKP Secretariat, CeCs and county staff to a six day official trip to the Republic of Germany.
As a kick start to their visit, the delegation participated at a Conference on “Sustainable Partnerships with East Africa – Science and Business in Co-Operation” upon the invitation of Prof. Bongaerts, where they presented the JKP agenda to the stakeholders.
Emmanuel Nzai and H.E Ms. Majala of Taita Taveta county unequivocally elaborated the journey of the JKP since its inception in 2015 to where it is today, highlighting the successes they have had since the development of the JKP economic blue print.
In 2015, the JKP signed a memorandum with the coastal universities (as the first stakeholders) purposefully to encourage the collaboration and implementation of developmental, environmental, educational and economic policies for the region.
In particular, they shared the collective research and resources of the universities and working with the County Governments to build sustainable Governance structures that will work to transform the socioeconomic well being of the people in the counties.
They then sought the approval of the 6 Coastal County Governments through an MOU to mutually strengthen, promote and harness cooperation in their development and socioeconomic agenda, as well as fiscal, financial and spatial planning in order to achieve sustainable development for the region.
"In order to fully realize these objectives, the JKP delegation will be focussing on establishing sustainable partnerships with German companies in areas such as tourism, Agro business, port logistics, education and research, waste management and integrated development, blue economy, mining and extractions," said Kingi, on Wednesday.
Other areas include energy, health and nutritionists, manufacturing and industrial activities among others, to bring immense improvement to the economy of the coastal region.
