A journalist in Kisumu has said he fears for his life and has lodged a complaint with the police following dead threats sent to him after he reported about a robbery incident in the area. Justus Ochieng stated that three flying squad officers confronted him in town on Thursday over a story he did on a CID officer who allegedly robbed an Administration Police officer, Paul Nyando. “You have been hitting us with stories but just go if you don’t know us,” one of the officers allegedly said. In his report, Ochieng had stated that part of the Ksh250,000 that Nyando was robbed three weeks ago, was returned to him last week after he identified one of the suspects to be a CID officer. Kisumu Journalists Network chairman Dickson Odhiambo and secretary general Allan Obiero have demanded a thorough investigation into the case calling for justice to be served. Residents of Kisumu led by Kisumu City Residence Voice Association chairman Audi Ogada have also petitioned Inspector General David Kimaiyo to publish a probe on robbery incriminating the CID officers saying they will move to court to compel the IG to release the report. Addressing the press in Kisumu town yesterday, Ogada said the suspected officer has been identified by victims of robberies but spared arrest due to connections with powerful senior officers. Kisumu County police boss David Ng’etich had earlier directed Nyakach CID boss Peter Muiruri to investigate the case where the CID officer is accusing of robbing the AP officer Sh250,000 at gunpoint.
