[Photo|Didmus Barasa]More than 20 families in Kimilili on Friday had their homes undergo massive modernisation with iron-sheets in an ambitious plan that seeks to rid the area of grass-thatched houses. The project would see more than 300 iron-sheets-roofed structures put up by January 25, in what the area MP Didmus Barasa described as the first phase of the project. The second phase, which kicks off later this month, would see the demolition of old houses occupied by widows. New houses would then be constructed for them as is defined by the Bukusu traditions.“But we will not stop at the second phase; this is a five-year plan. We will swiftly move in to construct latrines and bathrooms for needy families. My ultimate goal is to make Kimilili one of the best places to live in Kenya,” said Barasa.
