Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka has urged the media to be professional in their work and stop running unverified information that could cause trouble to the country.
Speaking in Athi River on Tuesday when he had a meeting with Wiper elected and nominated women leaders, the NASA deputy leader said he was disturbed to see a headline on a certain local daily claiming that he will be sworn in as the People’s Deputy President on February 28 at Uhuru Park.
Kalonzo said the media is an important tool in democracy but has to play its cards right.
“I was shocked when people started calling me in fact some congratulating me for the February 28 swearing in that I was not aware of,” Kalonzo said.
Kalonzo asked the media to do thorough background and verification of information before publishing, saying it is the only way they will be acting responsibly.
On Tuesday, a local daily ran a headline claiming Kalonzo will take oath on February, 28 at Uhuru Park.
The local daily also reported that Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi and Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula were to be in attendance.
Kalonzo termed the speculations as pure propaganda, saying that he will be sworn in but not on February 28.
The former Vice President said that NASA will communicate the date and time of his swearing in. “I am not aware of any swearing in on February 28 and that is pure propaganda meant to cause confusion,” he said.
Kalonzo maintained he is not afraid of being sworn in adding that there is much consultations going in within NASA.
Kalonzo, Mudavadi and Wetangula mysteriously skipped Raila’s inauguration as the peoples’ president on January 30.
The three defended their absence after a series of attacks and condemnation from NASA politicians and supporters who termed them as cowards.
