Kenya's Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma has been elected Chairperson of CommonwealthMinisterial Action Group (CMAG).

Juma will be taking over the position that was being held by an official from Cyprus. Kenya will be deputized by Australia.

Ms Juma will serve for a two-year term in the CMAG.

CMAG is a group made up of a rotating group of foreign ministers from eight countries, for two years now.

The current members of CMAG include Cyprus, Guyana, India, Kenya, Malta, Namibia, NewZealand, Pakistan and Solomon Island.

Speaking on Friday in London, Ms. Juma said that Kenya appreciates the role Commonwealth had played during Kenya's electioneering period in 2017.

"We appreciate the Commonwealth Secretariat for sending professional observers that provided constructive advice during and after the two presidential polls that Kenya went through in 60 days," she said.

CMAG was established in 1995.
