Edna Kiplagat and Geoffrey Kirui will lead a contingent of other eight Kenyan long distance runners in this year’s edition of Boston Marathon in the United States of America (USA).
The two Kenyans will be seeking to defend the titles they won last year, during this year’s edition of the Boston Marathon on April 16 this year. It will be the 122nd edition of the Boston Marathon.
The two champions are contained in a list of elite runners Boston Marathon organizers have disclosed will be taking part in the race.
“This international field, combined with the previously announced Americans and defending champions, will make for a very memorable race day with historic potential,” Tom Grilk who is the chief executive officer of the Boston Athletic Association is quoted by Capital Sports.
Last year, Geoffrey Kirui won the men’s category of the Boston Marathon after running for 2:09:37. Rupp Galen of USA and Japan’s Osako Suguru finished second and third respectively.
In the ladies category, Eden Kiplagat emerged top after leading the pack in a time of 2:21:52. She was closely followed by Britain’s Rose Chelimo and Jordan Hasay of USA respectively.
Other Kenyans expected to participate in this year’s edition of Boston Marathon are: Nobert Kigen, Wilson Chebet, Evans Chebet, Philemon Rono, Felix Kandie, Stephen Sambu, Gladys Chesir and Caroline Rotich.
