Owiti died at the Agha Khan Hospital in Kisumu on Monday, after a long illness spanning seven years.

Speaking to the press at their Ahero home, Bishop Winnie Owiti who is the wife of the deceased said the archbishop has been ailing since 2011.

“In the year 2011 after preaching the word of God in Church on his way back home, Archbishop Silas Owiti had a stroke and when he was rushed to the hospital they said it was pressure of the brain,” said Bishop Winnie.

She said her husband started preaching in the 1950’s.

“Silas Owiti is the first well known pentecostal preacher who can be called a pentecostal and general started preaching early in 1994 when young people were not preaching. He started preaching in his 20’s when he was just newly married,” added Winnie.

The late archbishop opened close to 1,000 Voice of Salvation and Healing Churches in East Africa according to Winnie.

Kisumu is the headquarters of the VOSH Churches which has branches in Nyando, Siaya, Homabay, Rift Valley, Western and Nairobi among other regions.
