[Photo| County Government of Kisumu]Kisumu County Government through the Tourism CeC Achie Ojany Alai has forged a collaborative approach towards tourism product development and marketing.Speaking at the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) headquarters, KTB CEO Betty Radier said Kisumu was ready for product diversification and development of signature products. "For a very long time, Kenya has been marketing safari and beach tourism. It is time to relook at ourselves and come up with alternative signature products for tourism consumption. Visitors are now looking for sensational experience," said Radier on Tuesday.The KTB boss indicated she had organised to have a two-day forum in Kisumu on February, attended by the Tourism Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala and other top tourism sector players in the country. The team will also have a courtesy call to Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o.According to Alai, the County governmnet of Kisumu will use the opportunity to have the leaders accompanied by the media for a tour of selected sites in the County. She said the forum would bring in tourism stakeholders in the Lake Region Economic Bloc and will include Ministry of Tourism, Tourism Parastatals, CeCs, Chief Officers, County Directors, Hoteliers, Tour Operators, CBTEs and other private tourism players in the region.The Equator Crossing line branding at Maseno will also be jointly launched jointly by Governor Nyong'o and Balala accompanied by KTB CEO.Achie who is also the Tourism Caucus Chair in Kenya promised to ensure that Kisumu was on top of things in terms of Tourism, Culture, Arts and Sports. She reiterated that Kisumu had tourism products and that the County was now working to ensure that the right infrastructure was in place.The County Governmnet together with KTB will put up a Tourism Information Centre at the Kisumu International Airport. Achie also said the County will use film and documentaries as platforms for marketing tourism in the County an idea that was fully supported by KTB.Radier confirmed her support towards organising a successful mega event dubbed Kisumu Super Carnival that will be held in Kisumu later this year.Also present in the meeting was Fred Okeyo, in charge of Product Development at KTB and Thomas Ouko, the Kisumu County Director of Tourism.
