Speaking on Radio Sauti Ya Mwananchi Saturday, the former Subukia lawmaker observed that the treaty is an attempt in futility, noting that the continent stands to achieve nothing from it.

The treaty seeks to establish a single liberalized market between African counties, with Wamwere saying that will not make any impact as most African nations produce similar products, making the common market establishment pointless as no county is likely to import what it has.

''This is just a futile rhetoric that will not benefit us in any way. Most of the involved nations produce similar products raising questions on why one nation would shun her own products to impress the other,'' said Wamwere who further pointed out that the Chinese and European intrusion will further worsen the situation.

''Most of these countries would rather deal with China or the Western countries, making the treaty just a scheme to please each other.

He also observed that withdrawal of Nigeria, the biggest economy in Africa, should also alarm the participants that they are headed for failure.

''When you have the likes of Nigeria, the leading economy in the continent disapproving such a treaty, then you should know that something is not right,'' he said.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, cancelled his participation in the treaty signing that was held in Rwanda on Tuesday, despite an earlier confirmation of his attendance.

Kenya was represented by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
