Speaking on Sauti Ya Mwananchi Radio on Saturday, Koigi said the president needs to come up with new ways to fight corruption.

He wants Uhuru to set up a special team to deal with thieves of public money.

"The President should lead the way as the rest of the nation looks up to him. He must demonstrate his seriousness in the fight against graft by nominating a strong team of serious men and women of integrity," he advised.

He said the existing anti-graft bodies, including the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) have demonstrated inability to counter the menace.

According to the veteran leader, only a new approach can guarantee a new result.

"What is being done now has very little little chances of succeeding. We need a more serious approach to this," he added.
