At just 33 years, Agostino Neto was elected to fill former Ndhiwa's MP Joshua Orwa Ojode's political big shoes in the 2012 by-elections following the former lawmaker's death in a helicopter crash.

However, the circumstance of Neto's political rise was contentious amid claims that he was handpicked by ODM Chief Raila Odinga.

Before that, Neto had established himself as a vocal human rights activist in the civil society. As such, he went to Parliament with a shiny CV and was seen by many as the right successor of Ojode who had represented the constituency for 19 years.

But in 2017, his political career was cut short by Martin Owino, the man who challenged him in 2013. So how is the University of Nairobi-trained lawyer surviving outside politics?

There were claims that he applied for a Principal Secretary position in President Uhuru Kenyatta's government but did not succeed.

Going by his Facebook posts, the once-promising political star has gone back to the civil society where he has been meeting various stakeholders including foreign envoys to Kenya. Besides that, he has been making numerous foreign trips in the course of his engagements.

Throughout his posts, the 39-year-old has kept off politics. So could he planning to quit politics or is it a plan to leave his opponents in suspense and then ambush them in 2022?
