At least 48 students and 2 teachers from Turbo Girls High school on Sunday sustained minor injuries after their school bus was involved in an accident along the Sugoi-Kosachei road.

The students were heading back to their school after a career talk at Kosachei secondary school when the bus overturned.

Confirming the incident, Turbo Deputy County Commissioner Mohammed Mwabudzo said that the bus could have involved in the accident due to the ongoing heavy rains in the area.

"The accident happened where it was raining and the drivers' visibility was affected," said Mwabubzo who urged motorist to be cautious while driving during the rainy season.

The students were given first aid at Turbo health center before being transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital in Eldoret town.

The Hospitals' Chief Executive Officer Dr. Wilson Aruasa said most of the students sustained minor injuries but their lives are out of danger.

"Some suffered a lot of shocks but we have counseled them," noted Aruasa.

What we know so far about the accident:

The accident happened at 3.00 pm along Kosachei-Sugoi road in Turbo constituency.

Emergency response unit took the injured students and the two teachers to the Turbo Sub-county Hospital before they were transferred to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

MTRH CEO Dr. Wilson Aruasa said, "Most of them sustained soft tissue injuries but their lives are out of danger. We have also counseled them as some suffered a lot of shocks.

Already 45 students have been discharged from the hospital and allowed to go back to school with a source at the Hospital indicating that the remaining three students are set to be discharged Monday morning.
