The Nakuru County government says it has approved an application by the Lord Delamere Farm management to open a mortuary.
County health chief officer Dr Samuel Mwaura confirmed this development, saying the facility would ease congestion at public mortuaries in the county.
He said although it will be located on private land, the Lord Delamere mortuary or funeral home shall also serve members of the public, especially people in need of good services within Naivasha area and its surroundings.
“We’d urge more people to follow suit because our mortuary are becoming over-stretched,” the health officer said.
“This is due to space and increasing mortality caused by rapid population growth with slow expansion in infrastructure and other service facilities.”
He reiterated that the county administration is committed to expanding cemeteries to cater for increasing needs as the current ones are overstretched.
He added that any Nakuru resident with land for sale within the county should inform his office so that an impact assessment can be done before such land is acquired and used as a public cemetery.
