A man and his wife were on Monday arraigned in a Keroka Court in Kisii County to answer to charges of attempting to kill a close family member.

Mr Alfred Moffard Omundi and his third wife Ms Irene Nyakera were being accused of allegedly attempting to kill Mr Eric Metobo Omundi.

The two accused persons were also charged with allegedly robbing the complainant of Sh20,000 in cash, shoes and clothes valued at Sh20,000.

The two were also being charged that together with eight others who are still at large, they injured Mr Metobo during the robbery while they were armed with iron bars, axes and pangas.

The prosecution told the court that accused persons robbed Ms Mary Kwamboka Omundi, who is the man's first wife and the mother to Metobo, of Sh100,000, shoes, clothes and other household items all valued at Sh220,000.

Mr Metobo told the court that his father and the third wife had hired a group of men on March 16, this year that was part of an outlawed gang in Kisii town.

He said that his father wants him and his mother out of their home adding that they were attacked on the material date by the gang who wanted to kill him and his mother.

They, however, raised an alarm during the attacks and villagers came to their aid and they killed one of the gang members before the eight were arrested by the police and other escaped.

The court ordered for the ten accused to be released on a Sh300,000 bond each and a surety of the same amount.

The case will be mentioned on March 26.
