Joseph Marwa was arrested by the police at Gesonso market, after he was allegedly spotted selling illegal drug, marijuana, to minors.

Marwa was later brought at Kisii Law Court, where the Senior Residence Magistrate, L. Kaittanyi ruled that he is to be remanded in custody, after it was evident that he was in possession of narcotic drugs contrary to section 3(1) as read with section 2(a) of the Narcotic and Psychotropic substance control Act No. 4 of 1994 laws of Kenya.

During litigation, Marwa pleaded with the prosecution to pardon him from his business, which he said was his major source of income.

Bhang has been one of the illegal drugs Kisii County government has been on the frontline to fight, with the county Assembly passing a Bill which stipulates that whoever will be found trafficking drugs shall be arraigned and charged in the court of law.

Kisii County governor, James Ongwae last month took an initiative in collaboration with the National Agency Control against Drug Abuse (NACAADA) to teach locals on dangers of drug and substance abuse, a directive which to many has had little impact in the region.
