Interior Cabinet Secretary on Friday backed Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama, a close ally of opposition leader Raila Odinga.
During the burial of senator Okong'o Mogeni's mother, Matiang'i said he is ready to work with the ODM elected governor to realise development.
"We cannot politic all the time and this is the time to work with leaders despite their political affiliations," said Matiang'i.
The tough speaking CS added: "Let us give this mzee (Nyagarama) humble time and do his job. This is the time to move forward."
Apparently, Nyagarama is facing an election petition from Jubilee's Walter Nyambati, a close ally of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Last month, Nyambati was among the team of Nyamira leaders who rejected Matiang'i as a 'tenant' in the county given his roots in Kisii County.
