Matiang’i says that media  reports of him ordering closure of bars is misleading.

In a statement on Thursday, Matiang’i said he only asked the inter-agency authorities involved in licensing of bars to do thorough vetting of the establishments before issuing licenses.

Matiang’i said that bars that only meet the requisite conditions and standards should be allowed to operate.

“There is no time I ordered closure of bars in Kiambu or any other part of the country during my public address at Makwa trading center in Gatundu North on Tuesday,” the CS said in the statement.

Matiang’i, however, said that the national government will not  relent in the fight against illicit brews and second generation alcoholic drinks.

On Wednesday, there were media reports that the Interior CS had  ordered closure of all bars in the county.

The fight against illicit brews and outlawed liquor has been stepped up in Kiambu with Governor Ferdinand Waititu personally leading the crackdown.

Last week a section of Kiambu bar owners threatened to initiate a motion to impeach Waititu on grounds that he did not consult them when approving county alcoholic legislation that is now in force.
