Although he still remains a public servant, Matiang'i is plotting to enter the murky world of politics, a move that has informed his increasing activities in both Kisii and Nyamira Counties.

And an MP who spoke in confidence said the minister is holding high level consultations with professionals and local leaders before making a decision.

"He is new in politics and he has not make an informed decision. One of issues he has to make informed decision is whether to run for Nyamira of Kisii gubernatorial seat," said the MP.

The dilemma is partly informed by the fact that he was born in Nyamira to parents whose original home is in Kisii County.

Before appointment by President Uhuru Kenyatta in January, a section of Nyamira leaders came out openly by referring him as a 'tenant'.

Furthermore, before settling on gubernatorial seat, a section of professionals have reportedly challenged him to run for deputy president post, a move that has further thrown him into a limbo.

"There are also talks that gubernatorial seat is inferior to his current position thus calls to have him go for running mate," added the NASA legislator.

The minister had been convicted of contempt of court and subsequently fined Sh200, 000 that was to be deducted from his salary.
