Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i says his move to strip off Governor Mike Sonko at least 13 bodyguards was in good faith contrary to what critics say.

Sonko, who has been fighting endless political battles, was among several leaders who had their bodyguards scaled down as the ministry targets 5,000 police men.

And at a seminar in Nairobi, matiang'i said security officers should be deployed to sensitive regions where security of people as threatened all the time.

"There is no county official who needs 26 police officers to guard him. I mean we can't just move a whole police station to your office," he said.

He added: " I am not doing this things out of malice as some people say. We need to protect more lives than just some individuals."

Elsewhere in Nyamira, the CS has stopped relocation of Ekerenyo Police Station months after issuing the order.

Area County Commissioner Isaiah Naikoro said the decision was reached at after outcry from a section of residents.
