Have you ever thought of looking into the names of our political leaders and try to bring out the actual meaning of their names?

Is there a story unfolding in your community? Let Hivisasa know

With others, especially those from political families having been allocated names as a result of the high possibilities that they would join the field someday, hence the need to have them carry unique titles for uniqueness and appeal, others seem to have been coincidentally given controversial names.

Here are two of Luo Nyanza politicians with controversial titles;

1. Ayiecho Olweny'

The immediate former Muhoroni constituency Member of Parliament tops the list of Luo leaders with controversial meanings.

His first name means tearing and the second one can be loosely translated to 'fighting' or a 'fight' in Dholuo.

2. Jakoyo Midiwo

Jakoyo is the immediate former lawmaker for Gem constituency after losing his seat to Elisha Odihiambo in the concluded poll.

His first name can be translated to a 'cold man' and the second suggests that he is or was 'unwanted'.

Midiwo generates from the word 'diwo' which means being isolated for being undesired or unwanted.

Others whose names are almost similarly controversial include opposition leader Raila Odinga, whose second name translates to 'itchy' and Kisumu Governor Anyang' Nyong'o whose first name is the Luo word for 'alligator'!
