The political Oginga family has made itself both a name and a fortune over its long-time dominance in the nation's opposition politics.

From the first Vice President Jaramogi Oginga Odinga to his son and current opposition boss Raila Odinga, the family is considered one of the richest in the nation.

However, this is not the case for Julius Ochieng; Raila's relative who is actually a known and skilled undertaker in the Odingas' Bondo backyard.

Ochieng' is also the brain behind a good number of the graves in the family cemetery at Jaramogi's Kang'o's home in Siaya county.

Reports in the Standard indicate that he was the leader of the team that prepared Raila's son Fidel Odinga's grave in January 2015, and his uncle Shadrack Osewe's resting place in 1996.

Ochieng' also dug Raila's sister Margaret Akinyi Oginga's grave in 1999, at the very same cemetery.

Despite being a close relative of the family, he is also a close friend of the Odinga's, specifically Fidel who was his age mate at the time of his demise, and who he says always gave him some money whenever he visited Bondo.

In an interview with the Standard during the preparations for Fidel's burial, Ochieng not that he does not request for payment after his services.

"I am a relative at this place and I cannot demand for pay. I do it as part of contribution and obligation as a member of the family," he stated.
