He was nominated after last year’s general elections, to serve the interests of PDWs in the Siaya County Assembly. Mr. Omwende is himself disabled.

He does not have both legs, hence being confined to using a wheel-chair for all his adult life.

In 2013, he contested the Sigomere Ward Rep seat an won on an ODM ticket.

Despite being physically challenged, the nominated MCA has been up and down fighting for his people.

In his first term, he led residents of Sigomere ward in demonstrations against the poor state of the Sigomere-Asango-Nzoia.

He accused the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KERRA) of doing shoddy work. He led the residents in planting banana and sugarcane stems on the road.

He sought to defend his seat during the 2017 general elections, but lost to new entrant Erick Abungu Odawa who is now the MCA for Sigomere ward.

Many thought that Omwende’s political journey was over, but he was later nominated to the assembly

The leader is the only person to consecutively serve as elected and nominated MCA in Siaya.
