She may have won her first political seat as Kisumu County Women Representative in 2017, but Rosa Buyu has been around for sometime now.

The fearless famale politician who has her roots in Bondo, Siaya County, made a huge plunge into elective politics in 2007 where she faced off with Olago Aluoch for the ODM party ticket to contest the Kisumu Town West MP seat but lost to the incumbent.

She later briefly served as a Commissioner for the newly-created Interim Independent Election and Boundaries Commission.

She made a political comeback in 2013 and once again faced a familiar opponent for the ODM ticket to contest the Kisumu West MP seat. Luck was on her side as she finally edged Olago who was seeking second term. But the incumbent decamped to Ford Kenya. 

When it looked like it was finally her time to clinch the seat, Olago defied all odds to win the seat. The firebrand female politician had once again suffered humiliation. She cried foul, went to court to challenge the results but her petition was dismissed.

She waited for her time which arrived in 2017. Her attention was now on the Kisumu Women Representative seat. She faced off with incumbent Rose Nyamunga whom she defeated by a huge margin.

Come the August 8 poll, she won by a landslide. Her dream was finally fulfilled. And with the win, she has finally opened a new chapter of her checkered political life. 

Good mobilization skills is her biggest political asset. Besides that, she's is known to a be a generous woman, something that has endeared her to the electorate. Going forward, Rosa Buyu is a woman to watch in Kisumu politics.
