Even with his advanced age, the no-nonsense former President Daniel Arap Moi's administrator is one of the most experienced people in Kenya's security matters. Besides, he has become a political headache to his rivals.

At the peak of his career as a reliable administrator, Haji served as a Provincial Commissioner and was one of the most trusted allies of Mzee Moi.

Immediately after retiring, the then ruling party KANU nominated him to Parliament in 1997 and from then, there has been no looking back.

In the 2002 election, he contested the Ijara MP seat which he won. He went on to recapture the seat in 2007 even as his political stature continued growing.

Owing to his experience in matters secutity, he was appointed Defense Minister in President Mwai Kibaki's government, the position he held until 2013.

In the 2013 poll, he contested the Garissa Senate seat which he won by a landslide after defeating a veteran in county politics, ODM's Farah Maalim.

He went on to win his fourth consecutive election in 2017. In the next five years, he will be 82 years. However, it remains unclear whether he will hang his political boots. But to many, he will continue winning for as long as his contests.
