It was being transported from Kisii to Nairobi in a saloon car when it was nabbed near Kibunja shopping centre.

The police officers apprehended the vehicle after laying a trap, following a tip-off by a member of the public, said Molo AP commander Joseph Mwangi.

However, the AP cops failed to arrest the culprits because when the driver of the saloon car was flagged down, he instead accelerated, opening a chase.

He said that as it fled, the vehicle of the two runaway criminals hit a bus heading towards Eldoret, which caused their saloon car to veer off the road and land in a ditch.

The suspects disappeared in the aftermath, he said, adding that vital documents were recovered from the vehicle that will greatly assist in identifying its owner(s) and hopefully the identities of the two suspects.

"The quantity of the drug is very large and would have ruined many of our people if we did not act fast on the criminals," he said.

He said police were on high alert and would not spare anyone found being involved in the illicit trade in Nakuru County.

“We are coordinating properly in making sure that such illicit substances are not transported along the Nakuru-Eldoret highway. This recovery has shown that our efforts have paid off,” he added.
