Mombasa Deputy Governor Dr William Kingi on Friday held productive talks with a delegation from the city of Tianyuan in Shanxi province China.

The deliberations revolved around a wide range of issues that would open doors for collaboration and cooperation in various spheres including trade and investment, tourism and cultural exchanges.

Kingi termed China as a leading source of investment to Kenya and a major trading partner.

He said the relationship between the Kenyan Coast and China dates back to the 15th century when the great Chinese explorer Zheng He landed near Lamu and opened their eyes to the opportunities in the east.

The Deputy Governor said he believes that the twining of the two cities will attract investment opportunities in infrastructure development, trade, the hospitality industry, logistics and even services like healthcare.

"It is our hope that twining with the city of Tianyuan will help us to learn some of the best practices in municipal services like waste management and urban planning," said Kingi in a Facebook post on Friday.
