A section of Gusii community leaders have insisted that they will only support a presidential candidate who will select Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i as their leader.

For months now, the outspoken CS has been maneuvering within Kisii and Nyamira Counties, making it difficult to ascertain whether he will run for gubernatorial or the DP.

Led by South Mugirango's Sylvanus Osoro, the leaders insisted that they will only accept a Deputy President offer.

"We have numbers and we shall not continue being puppets. Those intending to run for president must give us a DP slot which shall be filled by Matiang'i," he said.

Nominated Senator Millecent Omanga added: "Matiang'i is proven and should be our spokesman. Hopefully, William Ruto will appoint Matiang'i as his running mate."

Multiple sources have indicated before that Ruto is behind the Gusii unity in which the community is looking for a way to unite behind a single political party.

But in most of the functions, Matiang'i has remained mum, only diverting his energies in serving the crucial security docket.
