Led by Riana ward MCA Vincent Moisabi, they claimed that Matiang’i should not succumb to cheap threats from cartels engaging in dubious dealings.

“Matiang’i has our support in the fight against contraband sugar and other corrupt dealings in this country. No one will assassinate him because every Kenyan is in support of his efforts to end the illicit trade,” said Moisabi.

Isaac Onchagwa, a Kisii based Jubilee politician said cartels will not succeed in assassinating the hard-working Cabinet secretary.

“No assassination attempt will succeed. It is advisable that all cartels should consider dropping their bad dealings and focus on engaging in legal businesses which may not land them in trouble when the law catches up with them,” he noted.

Tabaka ward MCA Daniel Apepo Ombasa said Matiang’i should ignore critics and cartels to concentrate in his work.

The MCA said the government must weed out cartels importing fake products into the country.

He said police officers operating in Kisii County must be vigilant and work closely with members of the public to weed out rogue traders from the town who are out to sell fake products to innocent locals.
