Constitutionally, Uhuru's tenure expires in 2022 after which Kenya shall have a new president if all factors remain constant.

Governor John Nyagarama of Nyamira on Sunday dismissed calls from a section of political elites calling for Raila to retire adding that the latter has 'zeal' to serve the country.

"He is a statesman and Kenya needs him. I don't think calls to have him retire should arise in the first place," he said.

Similar sentiments were echoed by area senator Okong'o Mogeni, who said: "He has shown that Kenya comes first than anything. I support whatever decision he shall make."

Ex-Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire had sparked the debate when he publicly endorsed Raila's presidency after the deal with Uhuru.

Also in the race to succeed Uhuru are Deputy President William Ruto and Baringo Senator Gideon Moi.
