At Voi on Sunday, MPs led by Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa vowed to support DP Ruto's 2022 bid even with Raila's prospects for top leadership remaining a big probability.

And in Nyamira, MPs Vincent Kemosi (West Mugirango) and his Borabu counterpart Ben Momanyi said Raila's legacy can be bettered if he quits politics.

"His contributions are worthy emulating but there is time for exit. I think he should voluntarily retire now," said Momanyi, a Wiper legislator.

But Kemosi, a Ford Kenya legislator, was even more critical, accusing Raila of dismantling NASA coalition by waging war against Senate Minority Leader Moses Wetangula.

"The old man is now going overboard and this is the time for him to retire. He is causing more harm than good in NASA," he said.

While Raila's unity deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta remains a closely guarded secret, a section of his lieutenants feel that he should remain for a bit longer in political scene.

It is not clear what roles Raila will play in the pact with Uhuru but his recent tours across the country have seen him being accorded presidential status reception.
